Fun, Food and Festivals near 99 City Road this Summer

June 30, 2019

Version 2

Running a Conference centre on the edge of the City of London close to Shoreditch we’re rather spoilt for new and exciting summer events over the (hopefully) warmer months ahead.

Here are our top tips on what to see, and where to go, all near to us at 99 City Road Conference Centre.

Festival of Football
Coinciding with the FIFA Women’s World Cup, there is plenty of footy action in London too, thanks to the month-long Festival of Football. The festival is all about celebrating and encouraging women and non-binary people to play football at all levels, and activities include film screenings, an exhibition, tournaments, taster days for beginners, comedy nights and screenings of the Women’s World Cup! Festivities are ongoing until 9th July in The Book Club and Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen.

Jesus Christ Superstar
Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘gorgeous, thrilling, heavenly musical’ (Guardian) returns to London for a limited season in the Barbican Theatre. Showing from 4 July to 24 August, its rock musicians, contemporary design and thrilling choreography make this energetic and emotionally charged production unforgettable.

Queen of Hoxton Rooftop: Las Mexicanas
Tacos, tequila and giant frozen margaritas are the order of the day at the Queen of Hoxton Rooftop, which takes the theme ‘Las Mexicanas’ for its summer residency. Taking inspiration from the colourful backstreets of San Cristóbal in Mexico, the rooftop is now home to a band-stand, a wrestling ring and a backstreet bar, and will be playing host to a number of themed events throughout the summer months. Feminist embroidery, mezcal insect tasting, or Trump piñata making anyone?

London Dessert Festival
Calling all sweet tooths: the first London Dessert Festival comes to the Truman Brewery in Shoreditch this August. Presenting the best desserts from across the UK, the multi-sensory festival will be full of experimental ways to celebrate and enjoy the sweet treats. Turn up Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th August and treat yourself to some indulgent treats like macaron ice cream sandwiches, frozen s’mores, cookie shots, cereal cocktails and more.

Being foodies with sweet teeth, there’ll be no surprise where you’ll find us in August! For more inspiration, check out Time Out’s guide to unmissable London events this summer.
