99 City Road Working From Home Diaries

April 3, 2020

With lockdown forcing us to stay away from the Conference Centre for the time being, we are all getting used to working in new surroundings. It may not be the usual hustle and bustle that we’re used to but the 99 City Road team area pulling together and keeping busy while they’re working from home.

Here, our sales executive, Jake Orme, discusses what he’s been up to over the last couple of weeks while he adjusts to the new normal.

“As you can imagine, there’s been quite a bit of upheaval for event organisers over the last few weeks. Events that had been many months in the planning were suddenly cancelled at short notice and with so much uncertainty about the immediate future, the industry has had to quickly adapt.

“Communication with clients has been really important and I’ve spent the last couple of weeks reaching out, helping clients to reschedule events and working out the best solutions for them. I’ve worked with many of our clients over several years and we’ve never known such uncertain times so we’re all finding our feet and working collaboratively to plan for events for September onwards.

“While some clients are actively re-booking events for the Autumn, Winter and into 2021, some are looking at the possibility of running virtual conferences during lockdown. These are great short-term plans and allow organisations to communicate with their stakeholders, but they are no substitute for face-to-face events and so we envisage that many conferences will be rearranged for the future.

“Working from home has taken a bit of getting used to. It can be tricky to find a quiet space away from others and to avoid distractions. It’s been important for me to get into a routine every day and stick to it. I’m enjoying the more flexible approach to my working day but I’m really missing the conference centre team.

“I’m looking forward to getting back into the office and seeing events come to life again. I would encourage any clients or event planners looking to re-book their events to get in

touch sooner rather than later. We’re working on the assumption that we will back up and running from September onwards and dates are filling up fast for September-December.”
