We’ve had an exciting and busy year here at 99 City Road Conference Centre. We’ve hosted some innovative and interesting events and welcomed thousands of delegates through the doors.
One of our proudest achievements this year has been significantly reducing our food waste and our impact on the environment. We partnered with food sharing platform, Olio, more than six months ago as a way of finding a home for our surplus food rather than throwing it away. During that time, we’ve donated 1,700 portions of food. The food has gone to nearly 200 local causes to provide meals for those in need. As a busy conference centre, some level of food waste is inevitable but through working with Olio we’re making a conscious effort to be more sustainable while helping our local community through food donations.
We’ve also started working with a number of new clients this year. Burlington Media Group, Clearpath Analysis, Solar Media and Winops have all held successful events at 99 City Road and we look forward to working with them again in the New Year.
To strengthen our business development team we’ve appointed a new sales and marketing executive. Mariya Hristova joined the team in September and has already made a big impact. One of her first tasks upon joining the team was to represent 99 City Road at Venues and Events Live. The event, which is a showcase for suppliers to the event industry, gave us an opportunity to connect with old clients and make some new contacts.
We’ve had the opportunity to host some creative and innovative events this year. In November we hosted The Lexington Conference, which was a food showcase event for 300 delegates who work in the food and drink sector. Chefs prepared a range of dishes for delegates to try and learn more about key ingredients.
We also hosted a unique internal event for Inmarsat in celebration of the launch of its latest satellite, the GX5. We live-streamed the preparations for launch from Kourou, French Guiana to guests in our Constellation Suite and hosted a drinks reception for Inmarsat staff who had been involved in the GX5 project.
With so many exciting initiatives and events this year, we were delighted to be recognised for our hard work with a number of awards. In recognition of our commitment to improving our impact on the environment, we won The International CSR Excellence Awards for Sustainability. We also picked up a Bronze trophy in the London Venue Awards for the Best Conference Venue – Under 400 Theatre Style. The judging panel was made up of 40 industry experts so we were thrilled to be selected as one of the winners.
As Christmas approaches and we prepare for the New Year we’ve got some exciting developments to look forward to. We’ll be revealing some major improvements to our registration area, giving the venue a facelift with new carpets and paint and also refurbishing our ground floor kitchen to allow us to hold different types of events. Follow us on social media Twitter and Instagram to keep up with the progress.
