Here, our guest blogger and sales executive, Jake Orme, discusses his highlights and looks ahead to 2018.

2017 has been our busiest year yet since we opened the conference venue to the public more than 15 years ago. We’ve had a record number of people through the doors and hosted a range of diverse events.

We have noticed a trend towards technology and innovation-focussed events which has brought some really interesting people to 99 City Road. A key highlight came just last month when British astronaut, Tim Peake, delivered a keynote speech at the UK Space Agency’s Research in Space and Space Analogues Conference.

We’ve also hosted an event on behalf of the European Space Agency and have taken a number of bookings from outside the UK.

As well as hosting a range of corporate conferences, we have also had a number of innovative and exciting events taking place here. Hackathons have brought a different energy to 99 City Road with professionals collaborating with students and graduates to create software to solve a specific problem in a short period of time.

We were once again shortlisted in the London Venue Awards and despite not taking the crown this year, we were really proud to be considered amongst some of the best venues in the city. We also had a presence at The Meetings Show and really enjoyed meeting up with clients old and new and networking with other industry professionals.

This year has also seen a number of changes within our team as we expand. Our event planning team has continued to grow and we have promoted from within, showing our commitment to team development. We also welcomed a new head chef, Adam Davenport, who has created an exciting conference menu that’s been a real hit.

We’re in a really strong position going into 2018 and we look forward to welcoming back our existing clients and making new connections in the year ahead.
