With this week’s news that we’ve been shortlisted for this year’s London Venue Awards (after winning last year’s gong for Best Conference Venue for up to 600 delegates!) it got us to thinking, win or lose, why are entering awards good for business?

With our team busy working on the day job of putting on great conferences and events for our clients, finding the time to put ourselves forward for awards is not always top of the agenda but we’ve come to realise why even just the process of entering an award is good for business.

Here are out top five reasons to enter an award:

  1. Great marketing opportunity

Being shortlisted for an award is great PR! Even if you don’t win, it’s an opportunity to promote yourself to new customers, find new supply channels and break into untapped markets. It’s fantastic to be recognised so it’s important to make sure that people know what your business has achieved!

  1. Benchmarking

The application process for entering an award can often force you to look at your business from a different perspective and compare yourself to your competitors. We made sure we stood out through innovation, growth, customer service and investment in people and equipment. The process will help you think of how you could be doing things better and identify areas for improvement – this could be more valuable than the prize itself!

  1. Boosts credibility

An award win acts as a third party endorsement for your business. Having your business judged and endorsed by an independent panel of respected leaders in their field gives your company the edge and sends out positive signals to clients.

  1. Building morale and attracting talent

Nothing is better than being able to recognise your team’s hard work and achievements, which can really boost morale. It’s also a great excuse for a great team night out! We are proud of the talented and experienced team we have here at 99 City Road. We only want to attract the best and winning an award helps to attract the best candidates as everyone wants to work for an innovative company that’s well respected!

  1. Networking

Attending awards ceremonies offer great networking opportunities. We’ve made some really valuable contacts with fellow event industry leaders and professionals which we would never have met before.

So, if you’re thinking of entering an award, go for it! The entering process alone is a valuable learning curve for any business.
